Most standard baseboards these days are 3 1 4 in.
Install floor molding before carpet.
Baseboards are often installed before flooring since they must be finished in place with either stain or paint and this is much easier without worrying about staining the hardwood tile or carpet.
Thick which makes them pretty doggone flexible.
High and 3 8 in.
First hold the base molding against the wall after you cut it to length and look for gaps.
Scrape and sand off any remaining glue or caulk left on the wall.
Cut away the old paint and caulk along the top edge of the trim.
When installing baseboards before carpet ask the installer how large of a gap to leave between the floor and the trim e g.
Remove any nails that remain in the drywall.
Fit the molding to the wall flush against the carpet.
If you see some cut a few braces from 4 to 6 in.
If the molding is slightly long trim it at angled 1 16 inch increments from the end to fit the wall.
For most installers this is not a problem and can be done easily.
Drill 1 16 inch holes every 16 inches through the baseboard angled downward toward the wall plate.
Pull away the old trim with a pry bar.
You can install the baseboard over carpet that s already in place or you can install the baseboard before the carpet.
Hammer tack nails through these holes into the wall plate.
The carpet installer can run the tack strip up to the trim then roll excess carpet under the trim.
