This is not a good idea and will in most cases make it tougher on the carpet layers.

Consequently tearing trim out for no logical reason or installing carpet before the house is complete isn t gonna happen.

Installing trim before the carpet is a good idea for a couple of important reasons.
The carpet installer can run the tack strip up to the trim then roll excess carpet under the trim.
The trimmer is not going to make a special trip back to install the base after carpet is installed.
Then touch up base if need be.
Install the carpet install the carpet all the way against the wall.
You don t need to.
A really thick shag carpet can make it difficult to judge how high to place the trim.
But i would maybe stop at the carpet store and run this by a real pro.
Some carpenters place the trim down to the subfloor or to the wood flooring.
For most installers this is not a problem and can be done easily.
