Mix carpet tiles from different packs to account for dye lot variations.
Installing carpet with tape.
Make tape x shapes with strips of tape 6 inches long every foot or so along the areas inside the perimeter of the room.
Outline the edges of the room with double sided tape and use the tape to make x marks about 6 by 6 inches about every 2 feet on the floor.
The installer places the tape under the seam and then lifts the carpet to melt the adhesive on the tape with a seaming iron.
Unpeel one side of the tape and press it against the back corner of your carpet tile.
The manufacturer recommends how to orient the tiles.
Now as you can see we can pick up in the middle just a little bit.
Use the seaming iron to activate the adhesive the iron goes on the tape not on top of the carpet and then butt the edges together and seal the seam with a rolling pin or a carpet roller.
After cutting the carpet center a piece of seaming tape on the floor underneath where they join adhesive side up.
Unroll strips of carpet tape and stick them down along the perimeter of the floor in all exposed areas.
Step 6 attach the carpet.
The seamed edges of both carpet segments must be straight.
You ll take the carpet put it right back in to the corner and then firmly press it down where your strips of tape are.
If you are using a carpet glue apply the glue in a straight line on each edge on the back of the carpet.
Don t assume that a factory edge is straight.
Any two carpet tiles facing in different directions will appear to be slightly different colors.
Tape neighboring pieces together with 2 to 3 inch masking tape or as directed by the manufacturer.
Carpet tiles will have arrows on the back that indicate the direction of the carpet pile.
Clear everything out of the area you re going to carpet and make sure the floor is clean and smooth.
Heat the seaming iron to the temperature recommended by the tape manufacturer and rest it directly on the tape for 15 to 30 seconds.
Apply carpet tape or glue to the back of the tiles if there s no adhesive.
Leave the protective paper on the topside of the tape.
Watch as certified mohawk carpet installers install carpeting and seal the carpet seams together.
Then he presses the carpet down onto the tape and pinches the pieces together before the adhesive cools.
Work on a single carpet tile at a time when applying any adhesive.
