The latex fluid that seeps from rubber trees has many isoprene molecules. Rubber can be considered elastomers and that s why when compared to plastics they are naturally more elastic.

They describe the attributes of materials such as rubber plastic metal etc. Plastic cannot be deformed once it is hardened and molded into a shape while rubber can easily be molded in different shapes even once the shape is formed. Synthetic rubber is derived from crude oil whereas synthetic plastic is made of petroleum and natural gas.

Rubber is a substance which is highly elastic and can be made harder and more resistant via vulcanization. There are actually a large number of materials characterized as rubbers or more generally as elastomers. It is fundamentally different from the restoring force in a spring which relies on the mechanical stiffness of the material. A polymer is made up of many many molecules strung together to form long chains.

Rubber and latex are not the same but many people use the words as if they both referred only to natural rubber which is the material derived from the milky white sap of rubber trees.
